celebrated and endlessly talented menswear designer sasu kauppi once promised that if finland should ever win the ice hockey world championship he would honour the finnish team with a collection inspired by and dedicated to the team. and as it happens, finland did win the championships the following year! and true to his word, sasu did do a collection inspired by the world champion team and their imaginary opponent. in my opinion, he took the essential of ice hockey esthetics, twisted it, turned it, owned it and made a funny, playful and a marwellous collection out of it for his aw 2012 season. sasu and his collection are represented - with saara lepokorpi, r/h & ensaemble - by the finnish broadcasting company, aalto university and helsinki world design capital 2012 organisation in their collaboration to showcase the movers and shakers of the finnish fashion elite alongside with the 2012 graduate show from the aalto university. you can follow the life and design process of each designer or designer collective on yle channel 1 on wed 23rd and thu 24th and watch the live fashion show broadcasted from suvilahti on fri 25th on yle teema at 8pm. sasu kauppi aw 2012 / this is finland model / lauri thank you / helsinki ice hall
